Meet the Maker & Giveaway

by Claire Chapman |

Did you know that your bag is made by one person?  Yes, that's me, Claire.  Your purchase at Small World Dreams is made to order.  Every item I make is made with care and huge attention to detail as I am a incredibly fussy about attention to detail.

Your order will normally take up to 14 working days to make, but I do try to get them out sooner and I am always happy to bump it up for special occasions.  Just give me a shout and I normally reply within the day. All my supplies, hardware and zips are sourced from local Australian businesses including the lining in your bag.  The lining is GOTS certified hemp/cotton, as is the Australian made feature fabric.  I have a no waste policy in my workroom and even scrap leather is bundled up into bags and sold on Etsy.

If you live in Australia, your order will be sent by Sendle which is a 100% carbon neutral delivery service and don't forget that 5% of every sale goes to the Zimbabwe Elephant Nursery in Zimbabwe to rehabilitate orphaned elephants.

This is our first giveaway of 2017 and it's a biggy!  To go in the draw to win either a Turquoise clutch (valued at $125) or Mini Mudcloth clutch (valued at $95), just click on the link above and complete your details.  Entries close on Friday 31st March at midnight.

Winners will be informed by email and announced via social media on Sunday 2nd April.

Hello 2017!

by Claire Chapman |

Hello 2017!   Hope your holiday was relaxing, full of laughs and plenty of quality time spent with loved ones.  There is nothing quite like the anticipation of being with loved ones, however brief the time is with them. It is just such a wonderful time to eat, indulge, to forget ones troubles and to have some fun.   I have come back to work with all sorts of good intentions, as I never make New Year's Resolutions.  They are just too hard to keep!  Today I started yoga again after a 2 year absence and wondered why the hell I stopped. Last week I started jogging (again), but this may not last long as my husband tells me it is bad for your knees!

This will be my third year going it alone with this bag adventure and I have finally cut all strings to the paid employment world, by resigning from my part time job this year. I have taken the total plunge and look forward to what the future will bring for Small World Dreams. Some of you will know that this venture started out as a way to combat a battle with depression and it has given me such a sense of peace and joy and my family's support has been amazing, especially my long suffering husband who has put up with many a weekend fending for himself while his wife hides away in her workroom. It is hard work with many a long hour teaching myself about the crazy world of social media, among other things. My daughter's are amazed that their mum actually knows more about Instagram than they do or have more followers!

Thank you to everyone who has been on this journey with me, supported me and who see my vision to create an eco-conscious accessory, that supports small business here in Australia.  Also, a huge thank you to all the repeat customers (you know who you are)!

September Catchup

by Claire Chapman |

Hello September, where has the rest of the year gone?  I love spring, because of the beautiful scents in abundance and the crazy busy bird life in our very messy, tropical garden.  What I don't like is that Christmas is around the corner and the craziness is about to begin!

The year so far, for SWD has been one of great pride and immense hard work.  At times we wondered if we where doing the right thing, but when Small World Dreams got nominated by Etsy as a Design finalist and then this month, got a small write up in Peppermint magazine in their Limelight Page, you know that you have made the right decision.  If you have not read a Peppermint Magazine, please do yourself a favour and grab one from your local newsagent.  It is packed full of wonderful eco-living goodness for the socially conscious person and if you know me, I am mad about living sustainably and limiting my consumer footprint.

What does your bag say about you?

Mine tells me that, I love my coffee and always carry a water bottle.  Did you know that I still work one day a week for an orthodontist, hence always having a toothbrush in my bag and I always test drive my bags, hence the nickname "bag lady" from my family.

Win a leather clutch
If you would like to share a picture of your bag, please post it on instagram with the hashtag #myswdbag and you could win yourself a leather clutch. Entries close 31st October 2016.

Exciting New Designs Coming!

We are always thinking of designing on trend bags that work with our eco-conscious brand and we should have some exciting new stock up just in time for Christmas.

Brisbane Finders Keepers

by Claire Chapman |

Small World Dreams does not do many markets due to our remote location and this year we are very excited to attend the Brisbane Finders Keepers market on the 2nd and 3rd July, so please mark your diary and come along to say hi.

The lovely people at Finders Keepers have written up a lovely blog about us on their website and you can read all about it here:  Finders Keepers
